2005 Western Canadian Doubles: Results

Mens Open

Shot of on-court action of the Men's Open Final during the 2005 Western Canadian Doubles.

Eric Barclay and Marv Mizinski won an epic battle over foes Tim Martin and Mark Heaney. This was one of the most exciting matches of the tournament.

While no one likes to see anyone from the Lawn ever win, it was nice to see that Tim and Mark (and Mark’s back) are not invincible. [Editors note: both Eric and Marv are also Evergreen members].

The highlight of this match was when a loose shot came off the left and then back wall into the centre of the court. Instinctively, Tim dove as if he were on the beaches of Normandy. Within a split second of Tim hitting the deck, Eric turned and fired a cannon down the centre of the court that missed Tim by less than an inch. Something tells us that Tim has learned that lesson the hard way…

Alicia Haneine receiving prize from Adam Radziminski and Scott Sibley

Womens Open

The final score was 3-0, but Alicia Haneine and Annette Soane’s win over rookie team Lisa Norlander and Jacqui Smith was much closer than the score indicated.

Lisa and Jacqui made a few mistakes, including a major fashion faux pas – their skirts weren’t matching!!!

Despite the errors, this should be a great rivalry for years to come.
