Evergreen Squash Club — Pure Squash
Juniors welcome!
An Evergreen Squash Club membership is one terrific value.
Have a child at home, who is, perhaps, too small for hockey, football, rugby or basketball. Do not despair. Squash could be the game you are looking for.
Squash builds fitness, mental toughness, and helps create an attitude of success in everyone who takes up the sport. There is a learning curve involved; but, Evergreen Squash Club has the coaches and support required to make the endeavour successful.
Junior members at Evergreen Squash Club have been involved in a successful junior program for many years.
For more information, contact our Junior Director, Phil Arthur using our online form.

2005 Western Canadian Doubles
The 2005 Western Canadian Doubles Tournament was once
again a great success. We had a retirement of sorts. A
possible curse in the making. Then there was the ever so
clever Nicola. And, of course, a whole new set of recruits.
The success of this tournament is highly dependent on
our first-class sponsors. Whom we gratefully thank. Then
there is the team of outstanding volunteers – without
which no tournament can survive, each of which is mightily
appreciated and thanked.
Retirement and Curse?
Over the summer, Mark Heaney informed us that he had run
the tournament for 11 years, and felt that it was time to hand
over the reins. Mark went on to help us out immensely.
After the hard fought win over Marv Mizinski and Doug
Buchanan, Mark proclaimed that in 13 years of running the
tournament, he had never won an event. By Sunday, Mark was
heard telling the wine and cheese crowd that the curse of the
Western Canadian Doubles was finally lifted, after 15 years
of running the tournament.
Whatever the number of years, the “Curse of Running the
Tournament” is still widely debated (see later).
The Lovely—& Clever—Nicola
A couple of weeks before the tournament, the organizers
received Tim Martin’s entry, which stated: Mens Open,
Partner: Mark Heaney; Mixed Open, Partner: Nicola Martin.
A few days later, Nicola Martin’s entry was received,
which simply stated: Mixed Open, Partner: Viktor Berg.
I expect we can all guess the outcome.
New Recruits
You may have to read this twice to believe, but we were happy
to have a number of juniors and young rookie doubles players
out. There are a number of players who will soon be taking out
the old guys on the old guys court, including:
Ryan Herden, Thomas Brinkman, Nick James, Nicholas Rodusek,
Andrew Clements, and Olivia Vipond.
Look out, and we should all try and get these talented
young players out on the court some more.
