2007 Evergreen Summer Doubles
In lieu of a Summer Solstice party, the Evergreen Squash
Club celebrates the event with a doubles tournament. This
annual event is a mainstay of the Greater Vancouver doubles
community. It is an opportunity to celebrate the easy living
of summer, and a chance to assess one's waning skills.
The hardy crowd use the event as an opportunity to test
themselves and raise a little money for charity in The Grouse
Grind Challenge. It is open to one and all. And, speed is
not the issue. Rather knowing one's self is the key.
(Though, personally, I just take some time to list all my
ailments to Richard before apologizing—again—for
not being able to take part.)
In 2007, thanks to Doug Buchanan's efforts, a golf event
was added to the menu.
And, thanks to a number of volunteers, and Don Smerch, there
are always enough snacks to keep the competitors, and guests,
from completely starving while catching the matches. The
Saturday night party, to which those attending contribute,
is traditionally hosted in the home of one of our generous members.
With the summer looming large, with the generosity of the
sponsors and volunteers, and with the hearty competition,
it is definitely an event to add to your calendar early in
the year. You don't want to miss it.
