The club will be running the amateur event for club members, as well as a Junior event. In addition, it is a fund raiser for cancer research, and to provide assistance for people living with cancer who may have financial difficulty during their treatment.

Local play may begin as early as Monday, November 12. Out of town players must be available Friday, November 16 for 5pm.

The BC Honda Vancouver Squash League (BCH VSL) is pleased to present three free referee clinics to players in the BCH VSL and Squash BC members.

The North Vancouver clinic will be held at the Evergreen Squash Club on Thursday, October 25. This clinic starts at 6:30pm and will be run by Mike Tooley, Certified B1 Official.

This biennial event is a doubles squash competition between the United States and Canada. Referred to as the “Ryder Cup of Squash”, the first such event was held in Boston, MA in October of 2008. The National Champions and the top-ranked teams in each country (Open and age groups) play over the weekend to determine the Can-Am Cup winner.

8 local players were invited to join the Canadian team.

We discovered today that the database used by the Evergreen web site had been corrupted in an attempt to serve malware. It is likely this occurred sometime within the last 10 days.

We believe this was achieved by a "SQL injection" attack. Consequently, in order to eliminate the corruption as quickly as possible we simply deleted all the affected fields in the database. This may cause some problems with certain pages on the site. When time permits, and we are reasonably certain we have found and fixed the source of the attack, we will try to restore the database.

In addition, we have modified all of the on-line contact, and registration forms on the site (currently the assumed source of the attack). We have not been able to test all the forms, so if you encounter problems, please provide Rick Kochanski the details.

We will continue to monitor the situation, and react as necessary to protect our members on-line security. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

This did not affect the Gigasports web site used for court bookings. They had a hardware failure today, which took them off-line for a few hours.

Men's divisions 1 through 6 play Monday nights, and men's Division 7 plays Tuesday night. On the women's side, Evergreen has 1 team in Division 1 and one team in Division 3, both playing Tuesday nights.

Clarke Warren, a longtime member of Evergreen, lost his son, Chad, 2 years ago to multiple myeloma. Chad's dream was to help raise one million dollars to help find a cure for Multiple Myeloma. Chad was an avid tennis player. Friends of Chad's are holding the 2nd annual ‛Chad Warren Charity Challenge.’

The Evergreen Fall/Winter Junior Program starts Friday, September 7th, 2012 and will run until Spring Break 2013 (approximately March 17, 2013). It will, as in the past, run Friday and Sunday evenings.

Unfortunately, the program this season will have limited openings as most participants from last season are expected to return. Members should call Phil Arthur to discuss the details of the program if their children are interested in participating.

The Howe Sound Doubles house league winds up this Monday, June 4, 2012, with the top 2 teams playing off from 7:15 onward. Top 2 teams are Mellow Yellow & Boozy Blues, who squeaked in by only 1 point!

Other matches will be set up from 5pm until 7:15, and some International doubles (aka "dingles") will be introduced at 7:30 on court 5! Dinner and prizes to follow.

• A beginner to intermediate group at 5:30pm Thursdays and noon on Sundays starting May 2.

The Spring Junior Program starts this Friday, March 30, and will run until June 10, 2012. The only weekends the program will not be running are Easter (April 6th & 8th), and the final weekend of the Club Championships (April 27th & 29th).

All juniors in the program, who have progressed to playing matches, should enter the junior section of the tournament.

One of our own, Paul Marley, was honoured by Squash BC who, this year, awarded him a Sport BC Presidents Award.

Paul however believes it should be shared by every Evergreen member, and, particularly those members who support the PSA tournament by playing, spectating or volunteering.

Celebrate your club & its members! Enter an event or three. Attend our annual dinner. Or, volunteer to help make the tournament, and dinner a rocking success.

This is also the time to nominate your choice for the Bob Withers Memorial Sportsmanship Award. Brenda is looking for nominees that reflect the qualities of sportsmanship, on and off the court, for which Bob was so fondly known.

This year tournament play will take place over 3 weeks. The first 2 weeks for doubles play, or at least most of it. The 3rd week for singles play. This will hopefully reduce scheduling conflicts and allow more members to take part in both the doubles and singles.

All finals will be played on Saturday, April 28. The finals will be followed by the Club Championships' Dinner and Awards Spectacular.

Sponsored by Howe Sound Brewing, we will be having a Singles House League and a Doubles House League beginning the week of March 19th, and running on 8-10 week cycles.

• Singles league teams are comprised of 6 members, and doubles league teams of 4 members. Each of a differing level of play.
• You can sign-up for one or both leagues.
• Doubles play is every Monday, and singles play is every Tuesday. Teams will play at a specified time (start times rotate by week)
• Play at your own level

For the current cycle, each league has a sign-up fee of $20 per player, which includes a team souvenir, munchies, a wrap-up party & prizes.

The 21st (mostalski) International Tournament is shaping up to be the best ever with fourteen teams already registered — including one from Mars! Other newcomers include Peru (Maria will be leading the Salsa dancing afterwards to work off that great dinner!), Mexico (well it starts with an M anyway - they started out as Malaysia!), The Axes of Evil and Cougar Country — can't wait to see the team strip.er.uniform!

Sadly, we say farewell to Swenada (too old and decrepit) and The British Bulldogs — put down due to a broken collar bone (excuses, excuses Richard!).

So fellow club members, if you are not playing — you should be, but come on down anyway and join the fun — play starts at 6pm on Friday. There will be snacks and drinks available — see you there!

Viktor Berg will be back Saturday February 4th, Sunday February 5th & Sunday February 19th for doubles clinics at Evergreen. The doubles court will be set aside for noon, 1pm and 2pm on the three days (note change).

If you are interested, send Lynn Broman your details. He is taking names now from Evergreen members, and non-members. Evergreen members have first priority until the Monday preceding each weekend. That is, until January 30 for the February 4 & 5 sessions, and until February 13 for the February 19 session.

The first one is Saturday, January 28th from 11am - 12 noon. Come learn the basic strokes and strategies, followed by some fun drills and games with others at your level.

These will be offered every Saturday based on a minimum of 3 players. Cost: $15 per session. Alicia and/or Cathy will be your instructors!

Amr Shabana is competing this week in the World Series Final in London England. This is the culmination of the 2011 tournament season as only the eight ranked players who have accumulated the most points in the nine PSA World Series championships in 2011 are invited to play. In other words, the best players in the world are competing.

The draw has been weakened due to injuries to two of the top ranked players, but Amr Shabana, the $50,000 Comfort Inn Open’s #1 seed and 8th ranked player in the world, has reached the semis of the World Series Final — for the 6th straight year. The semi is played tomorrow and the final on Sunday, January 8, 2012.

The 40th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship will be hosted at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon from January 27-29th. The tournament is open to all levels and all ages and we expect to attract up to 40 teams from up and down the West Coast.
