Court conflicts tentatively resolved.

Viktor Berg will be back Saturday February 4th, Sunday February 5th & Sunday February 19th for doubles clinics at Evergreen. The doubles court will be set aside for noon, 1pm and 2pm on the three days (note change).

If you are interested, send Lynn Broman your details. He is taking names now from Evergreen members, and non-members. Evergreen members have first priority until the Monday preceding each weekend. That is, until January 30 for the February 4 & 5 sessions, and until February 13 for the February 19 session.

Dwight Jones posts these newsletters to the Evergreen Forums on Gigasports. So, when you're logged into Gigasports, cursor over Home, and slide down the drop-down menu and click on Forums. Then, click on Evergreen Squash Club, and locate the appropriate entry.

The first one is Saturday, January 28th from 11am - 12 noon. Come learn the basic strokes and strategies, followed by some fun drills and games with others at your level.

These will be offered every Saturday based on a minimum of 3 players. Cost: $15 per session. Alicia and/or Cathy will be your instructors!

Sign-up now, e-mail Cathy Covernton indicating your interest, and providing your name, contact info, and the Saturday dates on which you wish to take part.

The draw for the Qualifying Rounds was updated Monday, 2012.01.09, afternoon. Arturo Salazar (MEX) withdrew. He was replaced by Campbell Grayson (NZL), and Sarfarez Ahmed replaced Campbell.

Amr Shabana (Egy) takes Gregory Gaultier (Fra) in five: 6/11, 12/10, 11/7, 7/11, 11/8.

Our #1 seed will be arriving at Evergreen Squash Club next week in top form — having defeated World #1 James Willstrop in the semi-finals and World #3 Gregory Gaultier in the final. Bravo!

Egypt’s Amr Shabana pulled off a stunning semi-final victory against England’s World No. 1 James Willstrop in today’s ATCO World Series Squash Finals to set up an eagerly anticipated final tomorrow against France’s Gregory Gaultier at the prestigious Queen’s Club, London.

Amr Shabana is competing this week in the World Series Final in London England. This is the culmination of the 2011 tournament season as only the eight ranked players who have accumulated the most points in the nine PSA World Series championships in 2011 are invited to play. In other words, the best players in the world are competing.

The draw has been weakened due to injuries to two of the top ranked players, but Amr Shabana, the $50,000 Comfort Inn Open’s #1 seed and 8th ranked player in the world, has reached the semis of the World Series Final — for the 6th straight year. The semi is played tomorrow and the final on Sunday, January 8, 2012.

Viktor Berg is keeping Saturday January 7th & Sunday January 8th open for clinics at Evergreen. The doubles court will be booked off for 10, 11, and noon on both days.

11 spots have been filled. Only 7 spots left.

On Saturday, January 7, 2012, Squash BC will be holding its annual Semi General and Planning Meeting. The meeting will be held at Vancouver Racquets Club and will start at 9:00 am and go till about 5:00 pm.

For those of you wishing to be part of the planning of squash for the next year and in some cases many years, you are very welcome to attend and have your voice be heard. Please let Kevin Kydd know if you plan to attend.

January 27^th – 29^th, 2012

The 40th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship will be hosted at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon from January 27-29th. The tournament is open to all levels and all ages and we expect to attract up to 40 teams from up and down the West Coast.
