VDSL 2009–10 Season

Week of October 21st

This weeks blurb again courtesy of Lynn Broman.

If you'd like to take a shot, send your comments to Lynn Broman, or Rick Kochanski.

Division 3 play.

Evergreen Muckers (Broman et al) vs Casper's VRC team.

First up were Dave Mafia and Rick Kochanski on silent leave from SPC for the night. Tom Locke and Casper the Tree Trunk the opponents.

Casper is dangerous if permitted to park himself in front. Dave and Rick did a marvelous job of keeping him off his game. Tom on the left was being punished with Rick's short shots and tried to cheat on his position, however Dave hit some masterful cross courts which Tom could not even get a racket on.

First game was a blow-out. 15/3. The second a little closer at 15/11. Tom and Casper caught fire with some excellent shots and got the third 15/10. Oh please, not a repeat of the SPC experience, up two and losing the match. Not looking good in the fourth, down 8-12, down 9-13, 13 all, set five. Tension. Crap, 0-4, looks like game 5. The boys clawed back to 4-4. Big time pressure. Yipee, Evergreen takes it 3 games -1.

Charlie Maddison and George Maddison were looking for some revenge and a tune up for the Portland experience. The Brothers managed to do a little of their renowned magic but not a threat in the first two games; 15/8, 15/5. The Brothers did get a lead in the third but that disappeared and went down 15/12 to Eddie the Eagle and Bromine.

Evergreen 8-1 in league points for the night. That puts us in second place to Don Beall group at SPC. They now have all wins for the season.

Division 3 has one more match to complete the first cycle.

Also in Division 3 play, Will Stiphout's Gringos were no help in dropping SPC down in the standings. Will and Greg Charalambous lost to Bryan Hall and Gord Fleming in 5. Iain Savill and Debi Grupe lost in 3 straight to Captain Don Beall and Warren Woodman. 8 points to division leaders SPC and 2 for Gringos.

Much better news in division 4.

Mike Tooley is leading his merry bunch the top of division 4. They have 3 wins and 1 tie. Dave Bissell and Ron Springer had a comfortable win (although the third was over points) over Monty Wood and John Black. Mike Tooley and Derek Andrew were also easy winners over Wayne Maunder and Gord Wells in three. A 8-0 night for Evergreen.

In Division 1 play

Tim Martin's team managed the 2 bonus points but it came down to counting game points. Wade Porter and Brendan George were 3-0 winners over Scott Kidd and Tim Hunt while Tim Martin and Andrew Smart returned the favour with a 3-0 win over John King and Trevor Latimer. A 5-3 win for Evergreen.

Hugh Woolley and the loveable Lawn fellows look like the strongest team so far in division 1.

A losing night for both Division 2 teams at Evergreen.

Kevin Gillett and Les Kerluke were 3-0 winners over Rod Nicolls and Roland Haebler. Paul Gray and Chris Wilson were 3-0 winners over Rob Dubois and Hamid Khosrowkiani; unfortunately total game points went VLT way.

Evergreen lost 3-5 in league points.

The Fishin' Boys also lost on total game points sharing a 3-1 and 1-3 loss with Sue Kaffka's Hollyburn team.

All 8 players are Evergreen members, but the Hollyburn team are all also members there. Scott Sibley and Richard Martin lost in four to Sue Kaffka and Gary Bombay. Jim Miller and Rob Forrest were 3-1 winners over the Mighty Jackson and Bionic Man Martn Kaffka. Evergreen 4-6 losers.

VRC is the only club with a string of wins in Division 2. They look like the team to beat.
