Evergreen Squash Club — Pure Squash

Juniors welcome!

An Evergreen Squash Club membership is one terrific value.

Have a child at home, who is, perhaps, too small for hockey, football, rugby or basketball. Do not despair. Squash could be the game you are looking for.

Squash builds fitness, mental toughness, and helps create an attitude of success in everyone who takes up the sport. There is a learning curve involved; but, Evergreen Squash Club has the coaches and support required to make the endeavour successful.

Junior members at Evergreen Squash Club have been involved in a successful junior program for many years.

For more information, contact our Junior Director, Alicia Haneine using our online form.

VDSL 2009–10 Season

Week of October 7th

Hi Doubles Enthusiasts.

Some observations from the October 7th and 8th matches.

Dave Bissell and Mike Kaffka managed a 3-2 win over Gordon Wells and Rip Peterman. Captain Tooley and Ron Springer didn't quite have it in gear as they lost to Dave Paterson and Guy Steuart 1-3. Total games unfortunately gave the 2 bonus points to VRC.

The Gringos had revenge after the opening week loss. With Brian Gaffney on leave from Broman's Muckers, teamed up with Paul Austin for a convincing 3-0 win over Bob Rutherford and George Maddison. George has been going down hill since not renewing his membership at Evergreen. Ed Berwick, also on leave from the Muckers, teamed up with newly appointed Captain Will. They downed Charlie Maddison and Gary Wong 3-1. A nice 8-1 score.

Les Kerluke put together a strong surgical team, taking no chances with the Fishin' Boys. Les and Tim Hunt posted a 3-1 win over Richard Martin and Jim Miller. The French guys, Rob Dubois and Kevin Guillotine also had a 3-1 win over Scott Sibley and the ever steady Les Jamieson. 8-2 to the surgeon.

Tim Martin, still smarting a little from the slow start opening night, was out for results. Captain Tim teamed up with Doug Buchanan for a 3-1 win over Barry Gifford and his partner. Not sure who that was. I would guess the ball never cooled down with Andrew Smart teaming up with Scott Kidd as they scorched Bobby Toor and his partner 3-0. Tim and his crew now feel better with 8 points on the board.

Gary Bombay had his dream almost come true. What a lucky guy. Playing for Hollyburn. Playing with Sue Kaffka. Being on court with two more ladies, Cathy Covernton and Ruth Castellino representing Vancouver Lawn. Hollyburn won the night. This is where the almost comes in. Sue and Gary lost in 5. Sue and Gary are also Evergreen members. Neil Johansen (an ex Evergreener) partnered Dan Allard (one of the big supporters of the doubles pro events) to shut out the famous Brians from the Lawn, aka Brian Jagger and Brian Meakin.

I was lucky enough to see some Ladies Doubles League last night. It looked like an all Evergreen match. In spite of the great gets by Erin Pope and great hard hitting and being everywhere by Melissa Troll, they could not handle Diana Hardie and ex Evergreener Nicola Martin.

Week three coming up for both Ladies and Open doubles league. Open plays on Wednesdays. Ladies plays on Thursday.

Have a pleasant Thanksgiving weekend.
Lynn Broman
