Doubles Ladder
Managed by Quick-Draws

The Evergreen Doubles Ladder ranks the registered Evergreen members according to an initial ranking, and thereafter by the match results submitted. Quick-Draws also manages the VDSL and the provincial doubles ranking. The provincial ladder, the club ladder, and the VSDL are independent yet connected services.

All doubles matches with four registered Evergreen members can be recorded on Quick-Draws.

When a VDSL match is entered on the league site, that result will also be included in the provincial rankings. The only restriction is that at least one player from each team must already be on the provincial rankings. Also, if it happens that all four players are on the Evergreen Doubles Ladder, a VDSL result will count towards the club ladder rankings as well.

Tournament scores are fed into the provincial rankings, and they too will influence the club ladder so long as all four players are registered on the Evergreen Doubles Ladder.

All friendlies, and in-house doubles matches can be entered into the club doubles ladder system on Quick-Draws.

All those playing in Evergreen’s In-house Doubles program are strongly encouraged to enter results. Members are also encouraged to record all doubles matches that they play on the ladder. Just a word of caution, be certain match results are not reported by multiple parties.

Do not expect that your provincial doubles ranking and your Evergreen Doubles Ladder ranking will be the same. While some data is shared, the data for the two ladders is not identical.

Essentially, Quick-Draws is set up so that if all four players are registered on the Evergreen Doubles Ladder the score will count regardless of the source of the data.

Quick-Draws will also incorporate any match into provincial rankings if there is at least one player from each team who is already on the provincial rankings.

Log-in procedure

A separate document covering the log-in procedure for the Evergreen Doubles Ladder is available.

There is no check for the duplication of match results. All tournament results and all VDSL results will be entered by the administrators or captains. Do not enter these separately. When you enter the results of an Evergreen match, the other participants are sent a confirmation email. After a match it is helpful to decide who is going to enter the results or if there is doubt, check your emails to be certain that someone else in the foursome has not already entered the results.

Avoid duplication

Before, or after, each match, determine who is going to record the results on the ladder.

The ranking system blends the individual rankings of the two players in each pair. The results of matches are characterized as expected or unexpected. If the higher ranked team wins, that is expected. If the lower ranked team wins, that is unexpected. Changes to rankings are small if the differences in pre-match ranking are small. Changes are more dramatic for unexpected results as the differences in ranking are greater. If a much stronger team wins there may be no or little change in ranking. All wins are not equal. 3-0 is a strong win compared to a 3-2 win. This is reflected in the gains and losses in ranking points.

The changes to the ranking of individual players are shared equally. If one player goes up by 5 ranking points, the partner goes up the same amount. The losing players would also each lose the same number of points.

Be prompt

There is a 5-day time limit for recording ladder matches.

Lastly, for those rare occasions when an error is made, what to do? Once a match score has been entered and saved, it is there forever. Well, not quite. If you happen to submit a 3-1 win, and your opponents remind you that it was 3-2, you will have to request that a club administrator make an adjustment. Tim Martin is the current doubles director, and able to delete or edit ladder results. But alterations must be made promptly.

Hard Copy

For those of you who would rather have something printed to read, Lynn Broman has prepared a couple documents covering the operation, and use of the Evergreen Doubles Ladder. They are available in Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF format.
