2011 Bob Withers Memorial Sportsmanship Award

In April 2006, many of us all too suddenly lost a dear friend in Bob Withers. Bob is remembered for his kindness, model sportsmanship, and dedication to the Club.

In his memory, the Board has created an annual award, to be given to a player who exemplifies the qualities that made Bob so special to so many of us. The award is presented at the annual Club Championships Tournament Dinner.

Your nomination should mirror the qualities of sportmanship, on and off the court, for which Bob was so fondly known. As Richard Dustan put it, Bob was¹

"a very driven person" — but without a shred of ego. Talk of his accomplishments was always diverted with his ever–present smile, and maybe a concession that "I didn't do too bad." Then he'd turn the conversation onto the achievements of others. His smile is the first thing friends mention.
